About Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen)

        Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) was co-founded by the Harbin Institute of Technology and the Shenzhen Municipal Government. It is an important campus of Harbin Institute of Technology. It is the first member of the China Nine Schools Alliance (C9) stationed in Shenzhen to recruit undergraduates and a national "985 Project", "211 Project", and "Double First Class A" university. The predecessor of Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) was the Shenzhen Graduate School of Harbin Institute of Technology, which was founded in 2002.

        Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) focuses on full-time undergraduate and graduate education, supplemented by part-time education. It is an important part of Harbin Institute of Technology’s "one school, three districts", an important force in building a world-class university, an important member of Shenzhen's higher education system and a new force in building a first-class innovative city.

        At present, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) has more than 280 full-time teachers, more than 150 part-time teachers, more than 150 post-doctoral students, more than 1,000 full-time undergraduate students, and more than 3,000 master and doctoral students. There are 4 disciplines, including science, engineering, management, and economics, covering 22 first-level disciplines. There are 9 colleges, 1 research institute, 31 research centers, 46 ministerial, provincial, and municipal innovation carriers. By 2023, Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen) will have 900 teachers and 10,000 students, including 5,500 undergraduates, 3,500 masters and doctoral students, and 1,000 international students in China.

1. About the Institute of Space Science and Applied Technology

        Our country's space science and technology is ushering in an unprecedented period of great development. In order to strengthen the development of space science and technology in southern my country, in 2017, Harbin Institute of Technology established the "Space Science and Applied Technology Research Institute" in Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). It meets the strategic goal of building a century-old science and technology power, the development goal of Shenzhen to build a world-class capital of technological innovation and entrepreneurship, and the needs of technological development and national security in the southern region. This is of great significance for accelerating the integration and convergence of space technology innovation and economic and social development, and cultivating high-end talents in Shenzhen space technology.

        The institute currently has 10 laboratories including space weather storms, planetary science, low-latitude space environmental monitoring and application, near space detection and application, navigation and remote sensing, space plasma physics, space big data modeling, digital space satellites, digital space military-civilian integration, and space materials. The basic goal of the institute is to build an institute with international advanced research level, able to undertake major national space science and technology tasks, make important innovations, and help Shenzhen become a new center for space science and technology in the South.

2. Teaching Staff

        At present, the Institute has formed a space science research team led by many well-known scholars at home and abroad, and has built a team of teachers with strong teaching and research strength and a reasonable age echelon. There are 15 full-time teachers and 3 part-time teachers, including 1 academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, 2 special-appointed professors of the National Thousand Talents Program, and 3 national outstanding youths. All teachers have overseas study and work experience.

3. Admissions major

        The discipline of space science and technology is the key development discipline of Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). The discipline is a new type of cross-discipline that integrates science and engineering, focuses on basics, and emphasizes application established by closely combining the needs of the rapid development of space science and space technology.

        The Institute will develop space science and technology majors based on the strategic needs of undertaking major national scientific research tasks, focus on the development of space weather, planetary science, plasma physics, navigation remote sensing, space environment detection technology and other research directions, and actively cultivate professionals who can meet the needs of my country's aerospace industry national defense construction, national economy and social development, and can engage in scientific research, personnel training, engineering technology and management in space weather, space exploration, space information security, navigation and remote sensing, aerospace engineering and other adjacent disciplines.
