Wei Fengsi, academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, is currently a professor at Harbin Institute of Technology (Shenzhen). In 1963, he graduated from the Geophysics Department of University of Science and Technology of China, majoring in Space physics. From 1980 to 1982, he worked as a visiting scholar in the United States and in Germany in 1994 as well. In 1988, he served as a research fellow of the Space Science and Applied Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. In 1990, he served as the fourth batch of doctoral supervisors of the State Council. From 1988 to 2006, he served as a member of the international TIP.SOLTIP CAWSES/SPACE WEATHER and the convener of China. From 1988 to 2002, he successively established the Chinese Heliosphere Physics numerical Open Laboratory and the key Laboratory of Space Weather of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (promoted to the State key Laboratory). Unitil 2002, he successively has won 6 national and ministerial awards, such as the second National Natural Science Award (the first winner). In 2007, he was awarded the Science and Technology Progress Award of Ho Leung Ho Lee Foundation-Earth Science Award. In 1993, he put forward the scientific concept of the national large science project, the Meridian Project, and served as the group leader and the director of the Science and Technology Committee. In 2002, he put forward the proposal of International Space Weather Meridian Circle Program, which was later approved as a major international cooperation project of the Ministry of Science and Technology. Since 1995, he has been leading the major national fund projects of the Eighth Five-year Plan, the Ninth Five-year Plan and the Eleventh Five-year Plan. Since 2002, he has been the leader of the discipline steering Group for the priority Development of Solar-Terrestrial Space Environment and Space Weather in the Geosciences Department of the National Foundation of Committee. He has been responsible for presiding over the researches on the discipline development strategy approved by the Advisory Committee of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, such as space weather support capability, space science, digital space and so on.
