Personal Profile

Dr. Fan Yi focus on lidar detection technology and high-altitude atmospheric physics research. He has professional background in lidar detection technology and space atmospheric physics.

In 1996, he was awarded the National Science Fund for Outstanding Youth, and in 1999, he became the "Changjiang Scholar" distinguished professor of Wuhan University. Academic leader of innovative research group of "Remote Sensing Detection and Numerical Modeling of the Middle and Upper Atmosphere" of National Foundation of China, director of China Space Science Society, and deputy director of Chinese Optical Society Environmental Optics Professional Committee.

He presided over the development of the world's only resonance fluorescence Fe-Na-Ca/Ca+ laser radar co-volume simultaneous observation system. By using lidar co-volume observation, he found the universal relationship between the structure and change of iron layer and sodium layer over the earth. He presided over the development of a large-scale rotating Raman temperature measuring lidar with the second largest measurement accuracy in the world (the temperature measurement error is better than 0.5K below 17km, and the height range from 17 to 26km does not exceed 2K), and presided over the development of the second spectral resolution Raman lidar in the world for measuring gas-liquid two-phase water in the atmosphere. He revealed the mixing process prevailing in the convective boundary layer and observed the formation of ice crystals in the natural atmosphere for the first time by using the self-developed polarized lidar observation.
